Corey Jones is a NASM Certified personal trainer in Salt Lake City, Utah. He’s a very passionate trainer with a desire to help every single client to feel and look better by maintaining their mental health and increasing their self-confidence.

Hope you enjoy his business story as much as we do. 🙂

1. Who or what inspired you to become a personal trainer, and how did you end up starting your business?

I’m not sure to be quite honest! I think I just really liked helping people, and when I got into fitness, it really helped me with confidence as well as mental health. Therefore, I thought I could help others find the same results.

2. What were the challenges you’ve faced in growing your business, and how did you overcome them?

Just like every other business, you’re going to have busy and slow times. That’s just the way it works. So make sure to have some cash when times are slow and don’t blow money when times are busy. Also, patience is essential! You’re not going to be making millions in a year.

3. How do you differentiate yourself in the market?

I differentiate myself just by being real and personable. I don’t have a niche or anything, which I probably could work on, but I’m unbothered, and my business is growing upward every year.

4. What part of your business are you improving? (branding, clientele, technique, etc.)

Probably a little bit of everything. Although I don’t spread myself so thin, and sometimes I feel like I’m not making progress in anything, I’ve been focusing on my style of training and becoming better and more well-rounded to help my clients reach their goals. The other things, like branding, I’ve delegated to an outside source so I can focus my skill set on the task at hand.

5. What advice do you have for any new or upcoming personal trainers?

Start at a big box gym, something local that can help you get clients. Do not rely on family and friends to support you because, in reality, they probably won’t. Starting at a big box gym will teach you a lot, and it’ll really open your eyes to if this is something you’d like to continue doing on your own. Once you’re out on your own, everything is your responsibility. You have to find leads, pay taxes, to make client contacts. Everything. Also, as I said before, you have to be patient. I worked at a big box gym for about 1.5 years before going on on my own in a private gym setting. I’ve been in my current spot for about 2.5 years.

6. How is Goldie helping you?

I find Goldie easy to use, and I especially love the automated text reminders that I can set. I used to do this manually before, and it was just a pain! I haven’t had any issues with the app.

Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up, with goals so strong that obstacles, failure, and loss only act as motivation.” -Jacqueline Gomez

Thanks, Corey, for showing us that constant work and patience are essential for reaching success, and thanks for using Goldie! For those of you who didn’t try it yet, you can download our appointment scheduling software from the App Store or Google Play. Stay close! 🙂
